Arbol Chillies are used in Mexican dishes to make chilli sauce, sprinkle over pizzas or add heat to numerous dishes. Chile de Arbol is Spanish for tree chilli and referred to as rat's tail chilli or bird's beak chilli. They are slim and small, around 5 to 7cm long. They are a vibrant red colour with a potent flavour and heat. Their seeds do not contain any heat so these can be removed to tone the heat down. They can be mixed with chipotle Morita chillies to make a smoky hot salsa. Try mixing this smoky hot salsa with soured cream to have a milder dressing for salads and pizzas. Scoville Scale - 30,000 units - Hot heat. Storage: Place the remaining chillies in an air-tight container and keep them in a cool, dry place.
