Bringing the Taste of Louisiana
Slap Ya Mama is Here—and It’s Bringing Louisiana Heat to Europe
You ever taste something so good it makes you pause, shake your head, and just go 'WOW!' ?
That’s what we’re talking about with Slap Ya Mama — authentic Cajun seasonings that somehow manage to taste like home cooking and a backyard festival rolled into one.
Now here’s the fun part: Kelly’s Expat Shopping is officially partnering with Slap Ya Mama, and we’re bringing their bold, Southern flavours straight to Europe.
Whether you’ve got Louisiana roots, you’re just curious about Cajun food, or you love discovering brands with a real backstory — this one’s for you.
So, what’s with the name?
Let’s clear this up first because yep, it’s definitely a name that grabs attention. No mamas were harmed in the making of this seasoning! The phrase is a playful Southern expression, the kind you might hear around a crowded kitchen table—when something tastes so good, it could knock you sideways.
The real story starts back in Ville Platte, Louisiana—a small town with a big personality. In 1996, Anthony “TW” Walker was running a local convenience store with a 24-hour deli. He wanted a Cajun seasoning that had flavour—not just salt. Couldn’t find one. So, like any good Southern cook with a dream, he made his own.
TW and his family spent hours mixing spices at Grandma’s kitchen table, rolling the jars by hand (literally—his young sons rolled the seasoning jars across the living room floor to help mix the blend). And when they finally nailed the recipe, it became the stuff of local legend.
Fast forward, and that little family project has turned into a brand known all over the world.
Cajun flavours with a kick & a story to tell
Slap Ya Mama isn’t just spicy—it’s rich, smoky, full-bodied flavour with deep roots. It tastes like home, like food made slowly, the kind where people gather around the table and linger. It’s grounded in culture, not trend. And it works on almost anything.
Seriously—this stuff is flexible!
Use it for:
- A quick rub on chicken or shrimp
- Jazzing up roast potatoes or sweetcorn
- Adding heat to your gumbo or jambalaya (if you’re feeling ambitious)
- Spicing up eggs, popcorn, fries… even bloody marys if you’re into that sort of thing
And if you’ve never made Cajun-style wings? Now’s your moment.
What’s in stock at Kelly’s?
We’ve got the heavy hitters—ready for your kitchen:
- Seasoning blends – Original, Hot, Low Sodium Blend and White Pepper. Each with its own vibe, all big on flavour.
- Hot sauces – Balanced, bold, and not just heat-for-heat’s-sake.
- Buffalo Wing Sauce – Your new go-to for Friday night wings or midweek cravings.
You don’t have to be a master chef. Just sprinkle a bit, taste, adjust. The seasoning does the heavy lifting.
More than food—it’s a whole vibe
Here’s the thing that stuck with us: Slap Ya Mama isn’t just about ingredients. It’s a whole family business steeped in culture and history. The Walker family still runs the show, still lives in the same area, and still keeps things personal. You can feel the pride in every jar—and taste it too.
There’s something comforting about that, especially when you’re far from home. A reminder that real food, honest food, still exists—and that you can get it here, even in the Netherlands.
And honestly? That matters! Because we know the expat life can feel a bit… well, rootless. Little things—like a hot sauce that tastes just right—can bring a surprising amount of joy. Especially when the weather’s grey and the grocery aisles are full of mystery labels.
